Mark York, Who Played Billy Merchant On 'The Office,' Died At The Age Of 55.



According to his obituary, Mark York, who played Billy Merchant, the property manager on “The Office,” died on May 19 of an unexpected illness in Ohio at the age of 55.

York appeared in a few episodes of the NBC workplace comedy from 2006 to 2009, perhaps most notably as a guest at a disability awareness meeting with clueless boss Michael Scott (Steve Carell).

The actor, whose legs were paralyzed in a car accident, entered the room in a wheelchair and fielded awkward questions from Scott before finally telling him, "You know what, Michael, let me stop you right there and leave."

York, originally from Arcanum, Ohio, attended Anderson University in Indiana before moving to California to pursue acting, with credits including "CSI: NY" (2006) and "8 Simple Rules" (2004), according to IMDB.

According to an obituary posted by Kreitzer Funeral Home in Ohio, “he loved TV and the film industry.”

The performer, aka Marcus A. York, had been working as an inventor for the past several years, obtaining two patents.

His mother, father, and three brothers all predeceased him.
