's next role is a dream come true: he'll play Willy Wonka
in a biopic about Roald Dahl's enigmatic candy maker.
According to Deadline, the “Call Me by Your Name” star is in talks to play Willy Wonka in a film about his adventures before opening his chocolate factory.
This will be the third film to feature Wonka, who was previously portrayed by Gene Wilder in 1971's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and by Johnny Depp in 2005's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
Chalamet reportedly beat out Tom Holland for the lead role in "Wonka," which will require the lead character to sing and dance like Gene Wilder.
According to Deadline, Chalamet was the first choice for a while, but scheduling conflicts had to be ironed out due to the training he will need for the musical numbers.
The film will be directed by “Paddington 2” director Paul King, but the composers of the musical numbers have yet to be revealed.
Chalamet will also play Bob Dylan in "Going Electric," a film set in the early 1960s, when the singer switched from acoustic to electric guitar.
