According to authorities, seven people were killed and 33 others were injured in four separate late-night and early-morning mass shootings in Ohio, South Carolina, and New Jersey.

According to authorities in each state, no arrests had been made in any of the incidents as of Sunday morning, including the deaths of two girls, ages 14 and 16, and no arrests had been made in any of the incidents as of Sunday morning.

A 16-year-old girl was killed and five other teenagers were injured in a shooting in Columbus, Ohio, just before midnight Saturday, according to police, who said two other teenagers were taken to hospitals for non-gunshot injuries sustained while fleeing the scene.

The teenagers were attending a music party at a downtown amphitheater that had been promoted on social media when shots rang out shortly before midnight, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

According to records kept by the nonprofit research group the Gun Violence Archive, mass shootings, defined as events in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter, have increased significantly in the United States over the last few years.

Last year, there were more than 600 reported mass shootings, while 2019 saw 417, an increase from the 337 reported in 2018. This year is also shaping up to be significantly violent, with 223 mass shootings reported as of this month, according to the GVA.
