Liz Cheney Labels Marjorie Taylor Greene's Comments On Mask Requirements "Evil Lunacy"

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) slammed Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Saturday for equating mask mandates with Holocaust directives, while her Republican colleagues remained silent once more.

“This is evil lunacy,” Cheney tweeted, attaching a video clip of Greene’s interview with Christian Broadcasting Network host David Brody on Friday’s “The Water Cooler” podcast.

While many have condemned Greene's remarks, Cheney has once again gone ahead of the Republican pack to criticize one of the party's own, as she did with Donald Trump.

Greene compared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) mask mandate for those on the House floor to Jews being forced to wear a yellow star before and during the Holocaust in her interview with Brody.

“We can look back in history to a time when people were told to wear a gold star, and... they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany,” Greene said, explaining that “this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about.”

No, forcing non-vaccinated members of Congress to wear masks bears no resemblance to the Holocaust, and the comparison is an insult to the memory of the six million who died. https://t.co/Pr0ZdYxu3p — Steve Simon (@MNSteveSimon) May 22, 2021

Among the thousands of tweets in response to Cheney's comments were calls for Greene's resignation, as well as criticism of other Republicans for remaining silent.

We tried to say something, but you kept accusing us of being hysterical. Now here we are. — Ellston "Latin Temparament" Logan (@EllstonLogan) May 22, 2021

Imagine if the rest of the Republican Party had the audacity to call out their own like you do. — David Weissman (@davidmweissman) May 22, 2021

I've just started a petition requesting that Kevin McCarthy expel Majorie Taylor Greene. #TimeToExpelMarjorie — David Weissman (@davidmweissman) May 23, 2021

Demagoguery, disinformation is worse than lies. It's information warfare—an assault—designed to kill faith in truth, facts, and democracy—Paula Chertok (@PaulaChertok) May 22, 2021

This is insane. — Leanne (@Lcmwriter100) May 22, 2021

This is the GQP. They kicked you out of leadership because MTG is the Republican Party's future. Hey, I used to be a Republican. At some point, you need to realize that the party is sick to the core, and that's when you leave. — Q.H. "Trump lost" Stone (@GwjQhs) May 22, 2021

It is part of a coordinated effort by GQP (thank you for not being a part of that). Also coordinated: voter suppression, ballot re-counts, refusal to vaccinate or wear masks, and even encouragement to carry guns and knives (TX, KY). A threat to democracy and life. — Dr. Beth Snodderly (@bethsnodderly) May 22, 2021

I can't tell you how important your voice is right now; could you rally some other rational Republicans to speak out against the growing lunacy? — Cheryl (@cdbammer) May 22, 2021

The Republicans then wonder why so many of us have deserted the party, as they embrace radicalism with hateful conspiracy theorists like MTG. — Crissy (@CrissyH_xo) May 22, 2021
