Senator Josh Hawley
's new moniker is "Hate Crime Hawley."
In an online ad released Thursday, the progressive PAC VoteVets
debuted the scathing nickname for Missouri Republican
The group, which works to elect Democratic veterans
, used the ad to highlight Hawley's opposition to the COVID Hate Crimes
Act, which seeks to combat anti-Asian hate crimes, which was introduced last month.
Senator Hawley was the lone dissenting vote.
The legislation was passed by the House
on Tuesday and will now be signed by President Joe Biden
The video also stated that Hawley's first political ad "was a xenophobic attack
on Asians," and that his role model is ex-President Donald Trump
, whose incendiary rhetoric has been linked to an increase in anti-Asian sentiment.
“Hate Crime Hawley, it fits right in,” the narrator says.
Hawley, according to the group, "doesn't even try to hide his white supremacy
