With the help of some blue slime and a fondness for “Law & Order
: SVU,” an 11-year-old Florida
girl was able to thwart her own kidnapping.
According to Today.com, the girl, identified only as "Alyssa" in media
reports, was waiting for a school bus in Pensacola on Tuesday morning when a man jumped out of a white vehicle and ran toward her.
“The man got out of his vehicle holding a knife, came towards me, and I tried to flee, but he caught me,” she said on “Today.”
Alyssa fought back as the man tried to drag her to his car, and after both of them fell to the ground, the suspect ran back to his car and sped away.
Jared Paul Stanga, 30, was apprehended a few hours later by Escambia County sheriff's deputies, and Alyssa says she played a role in making it happen by using a clever clue: blue slime.
Alyssa had been playing with some homemade blue slime at the time of the attempted kidnapping, and she made sure to get some on her attacker, according to "Inside Edition," which played a role in Stanga's arrest.
“She had blue slime on her hands,” a sheriff’s department spokesman said at a press conference, adding that “the suspect, when we caught him, had blue slime all over his own arms.”
Alyssa learned this lesson from her favorite television show, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
“I knew that might be better evidence if the cops do find him,” she said on “Today.”
Stanga is being held on a $1.5 million bond after being charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under the age of 13 and aggravated assault and battery.
According to "Inside Edition," Alyssa's mother stated that Stanga approached her daughter at a bus stop two weeks ago.
According to the Pensacola News Journal, the suspect has a history of sexual offenses, including sexual offenses against children
, but Stanga's wife told Florida television station WEAR TV that the incident was a misunderstanding.
In an Instagram
post, "SVU" star Mariska Hargitay
