Late-Night Comedian Admits He Was Turned Down For A Role In 'Friends'

Stephen Colbert revealed to cast member Lisa Kudrow (aka Phoebe Buffay on the show) that he was *thisclose* to getting a role on "Friends."

On Wednesday, the host of "The Late Show" recalled auditioning for a one-week role.

“I got called in, auditioned on the set and everything like that. Not with anyone, with a casting director or anything, but if I got it, they would have pushed me in a room and I would have started working with you guys,” he recalled.

However, the audition, like his audition for the role of Screech in "Saved by the Bell," failed miserably.

“And... I didn't get it,” Colbert said of the "Friends" role.

“I didn’t get it. I didn’t get it,” he continued, adding, “I’m sure you would have remembered working with a Stephen Colbert, and boy, did I need a gig at the time. Boy.”
