Salma Hayek Opens Up About Her COVID-19 Near-Death Experience

Salma Hayek has spoken out about her weeks-long, near-fatal battle with COVID-19, from which she is still recovering a year later.

In a new interview with Variety, the Mexican actress recalled being quarantined in her London home for seven weeks after contracting the coronavirus in the early days of the pandemic.

Hayek, 54, was in need of oxygen but refused to be admitted to the hospital.

“My doctor begged me to go to the hospital because it was so bad,” she told the magazine, “but I said no, thank you. I'd rather die at home.”

Hayek returned to the set of Ridley Scott's "House of Gucci" last month, which is about the murder of Italian fashion mogul Maurizio Gucci.

In addition to Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, and Jeremy Irons, the cast includes Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, and Jeremy Irons.

“It wasn’t a lot of time,” Hayek said of the role. “It was the perfect job to just get back into it. I had started doing Zooms at one point, but I could only do so many because I would get so tired.”

The full interview with Hayek can be found on Variety's website.
