The Capitol Riot Commission Is Opposed By Mike Pence's Own Brother.

Even though his own brother was a central target of the mob's rage, Rep. Greg Pence (R-Ind.) opposes an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol.

“Hanging Judge Nancy Pelosi is hellbent on pushing her version of partisan justice, complete with a hand-picked jury that will carry out her pre-determined political execution of Donald Trump before law enforcement officials have finished their investigation,” Pence said in a statement released Wednesday, according to The Washington Post.

The commission, modeled after the bipartisan 9/11 commission, will be voted on by the House on Wednesday evening. It will investigate the causes of the deadly attack and make recommendations to ensure that it does not happen again.

Pence's use of the words "hanging" and "execution" is strange, because those are the exact words used by the mob on Jan. 6 when they were looking for his brother, former Vice President Mike Pence.

The entire reason the mob marched to the Capitol on January 6 was to prevent Congress and the vice president from certifying Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

The mob was led there by Donald Trump, who put his own vice president in the crosshairs of the crowd during a speech at a “Stop the Steal” rally that day, expecting Mike Pence to stop the certification and prevent Biden from being declared the winner, something he was not legally allowed to do.

“Mike Pence is going to have to come through for us, and if he doesn’t, it will be a sad day for our country because you are sworn to uphold our Constitution,” Trump said.

When Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, they were looking for Pence as well as Congress.

I heard at least three different rioters at the Capitol say that they hoped to find Vice President Mike Pence and hang him as a traitor from a Capitol Hill tree. It was a common refrain, and many more were simply discussing how the VP should be executed. https://t.co/fxHREouEWF — Jim Bourg (@jimbourg) January 8, 2021

The violent mob came dangerously close to Pence, but Secret Service officers were able to safely transport the vice president and his family to a secure location off the Senate floor; if they had arrived a few seconds later, Pence would have been within view of a group of rioters who had made their way up to the second floor.

The legislation to establish the independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 riot was drafted by both Democrats and Republicans, and it has the support of the family of Capitol Police Officer Howie Liebengood, who committed suicide after the attack. However, GOP leaders have come out against the panel, falsely accusing Democrats of negotiating in bad faith and attempting to tithe.
