Eric Trump Tried To Steal His Father's Favorite Line, But It Didn't Work Out.

During a Fox News appearance on Tuesday night, Eric Trump attempted to use one of his father's favorite embellishments, but it was quickly identified online.

People hug him and then cry, according to Eric Trump, "literally, sometimes Sean, with tears in their eyes," as they express their love for his father, former President Donald Trump:

If that sounds familiar, it's because the former president frequently told variations on the same story, usually involving "tough guys" who had never cried before but were moved to tears after meeting him.

In 2019, Trump mentioned a man who allegedly sobbed as he begged the then-president to reduce regulations.

“I don’t think he cried in his life, and I don’t think he cried as a baby,” Trump said, “but he was crying and said, ‘Sir, you give me back my life and my property.’”

Trump allegedly told a similar story about someone else in 2018.

“He was a strong, tough guy, and he was crying, and he said, ‘Mr. President, thank you for saving America,’” Trump said. “I'm telling you, that man, he was tough. I don't think he cried when he was a baby.”

Trump also claimed that farmers and ranchers were sobbing behind him as he delivered a speech at a 2017 event, but video from the scene showed no obvious tears.

People were quick to mock Eric Trump for stealing a line from his father's playbook, given that history:

A) sureB) did you check for your wallet afterwards @erictrump?C) do you ever walk down the street past random people pic.twitter.com/DyjT4nszNE — Keith Olbermann (@KeithObermann) May 19, 2021

"tough guys...big guys...tears in their eyes...sir...they say to me....sir....I miss your father, don junior" https://t.co/qOMdph2qLG — darthTM (@darth) May 19, 2021

So the secret service allowed random people to hug Donald Trump. https://t.co/MMjbEcL4wN— M Bingham (@MissMaes2cents) May 19, 2021

Was this "mythical" street a walking path in Mar-a-Lago? Also, @EricTrump's own father doesn't hug him, let alone random strangers. Why would your Secret Service detail allow strangers to approach you, Eric? https://t.co/95E9P4d0jG — Paulette Feeney (@PauletteParis1) May 19, 2021

@EricTrump This is a blatant lie.1. The only people missing your deadbeat dad are you, Jr., and Rudy.2. NO ONE would hug you....(not even daddy.) https://t.co/gqcx5bUfrV — Jefferson’s Ghost (@cctigers09) May 19, 2021

When the son does this shtick, it sounds far more ridiculous and pathetic. https://t.co/WZZWYKuHmG— Spiro Agnew's Ghost (@SpiroAgnewGhost) May 19, 2021

Those are known as "winos" in Boston. https://t.co/xm5z6Vd967— Roshan Rinaldi (@Roshan_Rinaldi) May 19, 2021
