Proud Boy Leader Charged In Capitol Attack Feels Betrayed By Trump: "You Left Us"

Former President Donald Trump abandoned him and other rioters, according to a Proud Boys leader charged in the Capitol insurgency on January 6.

“Alright, I'm going to say it. FUCK TRUMP,” said self-described Proud Boys sergeant-at-arms Ethan Nordean in a Telegram message on Jan. 20. “Fuck him more than Biden. I've followed this guy for 4 years and given everything and lost it all.”

Nordean, 30, of Washington state, filed the complaint after Proud Boys Florida organizer Joseph Biggs, 37, was arrested for his role in the day's violence, which resulted in five deaths and 140 police officers being injured.

“Yes, he woke us up, but he led us to believe some great justice was upon us... and it never happened,” Nordean wrote of Trump in a Telegram message revealed this week by federal prosecutors. “Now I’ve got some of my good friends and myself facing jail time cuz we followed this guys lead and never questioned it.”

Nordean, who was arrested a week after posting the Telegram message, appeared to realize Trump was not going to pardon him and his violent gang members.

“We are now and have always been on our own,” Nordean wrote, adding, “I am grateful he was able to pardon a bunch of degenerates as his final move and shit on us on the way out.”

Nordean, who has been imprisoned since early February, is charged with attempting to obstruct Congress's certification of Joe Biden's Electoral College victory, and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. He is also charged with aiding and abetting, knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Even as Republican lawmakers attempted to rewrite history this week, falsely claiming that the insurgents were the true Jan. 6 victims, Nordean's own lawyer blamed Trump for inciting the riot.

“Thousands of people descended on Washington, D.C., on January 6 to protest the outcome of the 2020 presidential election,” public defender Corey Endothe wrote in a February court filing. “Egged on by Donald Trump, other politicians, his legal advocates, and the news media, these people believed the election had been stolen.”

Prosecutors also discovered new Telegram messages revealing how the Proud Boys planned the day's violence.

“If they steal it, drag them out by the fucking hair,” one member said in the chats.

“Let them remember the day they decided to go to war with us,” Nordean said just days before the attack, adding, “We will fight.”

Bail was revoked in April for both Nordean and Biggs after federal prosecutors successfully argued that the two men were key players in the attack's planning.

Trump moved to his Florida country club after leaving the White House.

“Fuck you Trump, you left us bloodied and alone on the battlefield,” Nordean wrote on Trump’s final day in office.
