Jennifer Gadirova of the United Kingdom
will take Biles's place in the finals, which are set to take place on Monday.
Biles, who won bronze on the balance beam in Brazil
five years ago, has not decided whether to compete in Tuesday's final, according to USA Gymnastics.
Biles has already decided not to compete in the uneven bars and vault
finals, which are scheduled for Sunday evening at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre; she is not expected to medal on bars, but she is the Olympic vault champion.
Biles is suffering from what is known as "the twisties
" in gymnastics, which means she is having difficulty determining where her body
is in relation to the ground while in the air.
During her elite career, Biles has been dominant on floor exercise, winning five world championships in addition to her Rio victory, and her innovative tumbling has redefined what is possible on the podium, with two tumbling pass dismounts named after her in the sport
's Code of Points.
