Megan Rapinoe Creates Her Own Olympic Opening Ceremony While Missing The Original

Megan Rapinoe, the United States' top soccer player, was unable to attend the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on Friday, but she was present in spirit.

Rapinoe and teammate Abby Dahlkemper were filmed simulating a march into an imaginary Olympic stadium while dressed in their opening ceremony uniforms, and Rapinoe even pretended to carry the flag as girlfriend Sue Bird would in the actual ceremony.

The United States team, which was thrashed by Sweden in their first game, now faces a must-win game against New Zealand on Saturday in order to advance beyond group play, as preparations for that competition prevented the Americans from attending the opening ceremony.

But there was still time to celebrate their Olympic status.
