'Embarrassed' Looking Raccoon Hauled From Home Following Failed Snack Quest

Despite the raccoon's obvious best efforts to hide, a photo of a raccoon being rescued after breaking into a Georgia home is going viral.

“We were called out to help this guy find his way back out of a house in Dalton Monday night,” the City of Dalton Fire Department wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. “As you can tell, he was pretty embarrassed about it, but it’s really nothing to be ashamed of. We all need a helping hand now and then.”

The photo depicts a raccoon covering his eyes with a paw while being carried through the kitchen by a firefighter. (The department stated in a comment that the firefighter did not stage the raccoon's position or manipulate his arms or paws.)

According to Tennessee wildlife rescue For Fox Sake, when raccoons are afraid, they cover their eyes.

Fortunately, the raccoon's terrifying ordeal did not last long, as the fire department stated that they were able to "safely release him back into the wild," where "he'll hopefully be less adventurous in his search for snacks from now on."
