Democrats Have Set Their Eyes On A $3.5 Trillion Infrastructure Bill

On Tuesday, top Senate Democrats announced plans to move forward with a $3.5 trillion “human” infrastructure bill, which they intend to pass using special budget reconciliation rules that will allow them to avoid a Republican filibuster.

The package would include a Medicare expansion to include dental, vision, and hearing coverage, investments to combat climate change, and additional funding for child care and elder care for millions of Americans.

“We are very proud of this plan. We know we have a long road ahead of us. We’re going to get this done for the sake of making average Americans’ lives a whole lot better,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said after a meeting with Senate Budget Committee members on Capitol Hill.

Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), a committee member, stated that the proposal would be fully funded.

It was unclear whether all 50 Democrats agreed on the $3.5 trillion top-line figure, as Democratic leaders will need total party unity to move the bill forward under budget reconciliation rules.

Please return for updates as this is a developing story.
