In His Speech In Philadelphia, Biden Will Tie Republican Voter Restrictions To Trump's "big Lie."

WASHINGTONPresident Joe Biden is expected to make his most forceful statements yet about Republican efforts to restrict voting rights across the country on Tuesday, pointing out that they are based on his predecessor Donald Trump's "big lie" about the November 2020 election, which directly led to his supporters' violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

The remarks are expected to be delivered Tuesday afternoon in Philadelphia, a city Trump and his allies claim produced a large number of illegal votes for Biden, ensuring his Electoral College victory.

Democrats and voting rights advocates have pressed Biden to push harder for a broad voting rights and election reform bill that has passed the House but will not pass the Senate unless Democrats eliminate the 60-vote threshold for legislation.

The Democratic president has stated repeatedly that he opposes the repeal of the filibuster process.

According to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, the remarks will lay out a “moral case” for opposing voter suppression and will be “authoritarian and anti-American.”

“The greatest irony of the ‘big lie’ is that no election in our history has met such a high standard, with more than 80 judges, including those appointed by his predecessor, dismissing all challenges,” she said.

Trump and his supporters continue to lie about the 2020 election, claiming that millions of illegal votes were cast in a handful of key states and that Trump won. Some of Trump's most ardent supporters, including pillow maker Mike Lindell, believe that the United States Supreme Court will consider their "evidence" next month and "reinstate" Trump to the presidency, an absurd belief that has no basis in fact.

Despite this, Trump pushed back in an email statement last month, saying, "Hard to believe I got 75 million votes (the most of any sitting President) despite all of that, together with a very Fraudulent Election. 2024 or before!"

Republicans in state legislatures, including those who do not believe the election was "stolen" last year, have used Trump supporters' lack of trust in the voting process as justification for new restrictions.

After being assaulted during the insurgency, a police officer died, and two others committed suicide shortly afterwards; one of the insurrectionists was fatally shot, and three others in the crowd died during the melee.

Despite a record-setting second impeachment for inciting the Jan. 6 insurgency, Trump has not recanted his election deceptions.

On Monday, Trump accused Virginia of having untrustworthy elections and advised the Republican candidate for governor there to keep an eye on the "vote counters" this fall, despite the lack of evidence.

In 2016, Trump was defeated by Hillary Clinton 44% to 50% in Virginia, and he will be defeated by Biden 44% to 54% in 2020.
