Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Criticizes Lauren Boebert For Calling For Ending Government Benefits

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) launched rockets at Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Saturday, after the conservative lawmaker called for the end of government benefits at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“We’re here to tell the government, ‘We don’t want your benefits, we don’t want your welfare,’” Boebert yelled as she marched back and forth across the stage in Dallas. “Don’t come to us with your Fauci ouchie. Leave us alone!”

“Tell 'em loud and proud girl! GOP will strip your unemployment benefits and dismantle any semblance of a public safety net we have left! Then make working people pay way more for everything on low wages while Wall Street gets a meal ticket!” Ocasio-Cortez responded.

“Good ol' conservative values, baby!” sarcastically exclaimed Ocasio-Cortez.

Ironically, Boebert has spoken about her own days on welfare, which eventually led to her "living the American dream," and now she's ready to cut off assistance to others.

I'm living the American dream, having worked my way up from welfare to standing in line for government cheese to running for Congress. Let's keep radical socialists out of government so that people can be empowered to lift themselves out of poverty rather than rely on government! — Lauren Boebert (@laurenboebert) September 16, 2020

Boebert's party has no qualms about increasing benefits for the wealthy. Under the Trump administration's tax cut, which was billed as a boon to the middle class, 60% of the benefits went to the richest 20% of Americans, with the top 5% receiving the largest cuts as a share of income. Corporate taxes were cut by 40%.

During Donald Trump's presidency, the majority of the aid went to larger corporations, with only 5% of recipients snatching up more than half of the $525 billion that was distributed.

The Biden administration's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan extended enhanced and extended unemployment benefits, which began in 2020, until Sept. 6. However, at least 17 Republican governors have announced that those benefits will be cut early in their states.

Twitter users responded to Boebert's call in a variety of ways.

According to the woman who # rode in a car driving to CPAP on public roads, flew in a plane in public airspace, works for the PUBLIC, and has healthcare that is paid for and better than what tax payers get. — Office of Former President Cheetolini (@Pottsie5) July 11, 2021

So her constituents don't want social security, medicare, medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, food stamps, etc, etc, etc. She must represent a very wealthy area of Colorado - NOT — Theresa M. Janson (@janson_theresa) July 11, 2021

She just told Republican voters who have worked their entire lives to contribute to #Medicare and #SocialSecurity - both of which are federal guarantees - to NOT ACCEPT THE BENEFITS... and so, when is #Boebert going to give up her BENEFITS as an elected official? #CPAC #MedicareForAll — #BernieSanders #MedicareForAll #WearAMask (@LostDiva) July 11, 2021

Nice finger pointing. How about addressing the fact that your party is largely responsible for policies that have increased wealth inequality, forced everyone to buy corporate health insurance, and keeps us in perpetual wars.We already know that Bieber's sucks! — WebbNfloWStrike&Protest4 Global Justice (@WebbNFlow1) July 11, 2021

While red states receive the most money from the federal fund, according to Boebert. — KratosOfPortugal (@KratosPRT) July 11, 2021
