Confession is said to be good for the soul, and it appears that it was also essential to Tiffany Haddish
and Nicolas Cage
's working relationship.
The two actors
star in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” an action-comedy set to be released
next year, but Haddish admitted in a recent episode of “It’s Been A Minute” that she needed to come clean with Cage in order to do her
The actor told NPR's Sam Sanders that Cage was unwittingly a part of a watershed moment in her life: she had her first orgasm when she was about 17, making out with her date in a movie theater
while Cage's film "Face/Off" was playing.
Haddish remembered seeing Cage on the screen, seemingly staring at her after she climaxed.
After about two decades, Haddish found herself on the set of a film with Cage, unable to shake the memory.
“Now I'm standing across from this man with those same big old eyeballs,” she explained to Sanders, “and all I can think about is the guy I went to the movies
with and how we were making out and then that feeling, and then how strange I feel remembering this in front of him.”
Haddish explained that she was hesitant to tell Cage her story because she was afraid he would find it "inappropriate" and file a sexual harassment
claim against her.
However, after realizing that her inner turmoil was affecting her working relationship with the actor, she eventually decided to ‘fess up.
“You could tell he was getting irritated, and I was like, ‘Look, I'm really intimidated by you, and I need to tell you something,'” she explained. “'I have to tell you this story, man, and once I tell you this story, everything will be fine
So Haddish told Cage about his part in a "momentous moment" in her life and waited for his reaction.
“He laughed really hard,” she said, adding, ‘You know, my first wife
saw me in a movie and said she was going to marry me, and we ended up marrying.”
“Yeah well, I didn't say I was going to marry you or let you put your fingers anywhere on me, OK?” Haddish responded.
“I'm just letting you know that a thought has been running through my mind, and it's preventing me from doing my job, but now that I've told you, I think everything will be fine.”
