GETTR, A New Right-wing Social Media Site, Has Been Plagued By Hacker Attacks, Porn, And Sonic The Hedgehog References.

On the day of its official launch, the new right-wing social media site GETTR was briefly hacked and inundated with porn and images of Sonic the Hedgehog.

The platform's most prominent verified users, including Steve Bannon, Mike Pompeo, and Marjorie Taylor-Greene, were affected by the hack on Sunday, according to Business Insider, and Jason Miller's bio, the former Trump aide and founder of GETTR, was also defaced with the message "@JubaBaghdad was here :) free palestine."

The breach, according to the hacker, was "easy."

Miller attempted to turn the cyberattack into a positive.

“You know you're upsetting things when they come after you,” Miller said in a statement to the Insider. “The problem was detected and sealed in a matter of minutes, and all the intruder was able to do was change a few user names.”

However, Salon reporter Zachary Petrizzo claims that the hacker informed him that GETTR was still highly compromised and shared all of Petrizzo's personal information with him after the journalist signed up for the platform:

[email protected] EXCLUSIVE: According to the hacker of Jason Miller's new right-wing social media site "Gettr," the site is still highly compromised due to an "API server bug." This morning, the hacker shared with me all of my personal information, which I entered when creating an account. — Zachary Petrizzo (@ZTPetrizzo) July 5, 2021

The hacker replicated his actions on an Insider test account.

“So it's just like Parler, but with worse security?” screamed one Twitter critic.

The hack was not GETTR's only issue; Gizmodo reported Friday that the mostly moderation-averse site, which was live but not officially launched, had already become a destination for "very niche porn."

Sonic the Hedgehog also made a big impression on GETTR, according to the gaming website Kotaku, which captured some screenshots of his appearances on the platform. Sonic has become a "favorite of the internet hooligans" messing with GETTR:
