On Sunday morning, fireworks
set off for a Fourth of July
celebration in Ocean City
, went off hours earlier than planned.
Employees of the company that was erecting the display on the city's busy beach suffered minor injuries as a result of the unintentional detonation, which was captured on video and shared online:
“Prior to the fireworks being offloaded from the vehicle, Fire Marshals secure a safe zone around the fireworks and put other safety protocols in place,” Ocean City Fire Chief Richie Bowers said in a Facebook
According to Bowers, the safety protocols "kept anyone else from getting hurt."

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
“A perimeter has been established around the fireworks site and will remain in place until the safety inspections are completed, which could take several days,” said fire officials, adding that the July 4
display, as well as another planned in the city, were canceled “due to an abundance of caution.”
