On July 4, Republicans Who Backed Trump's Election Lies Were Chastised For Displaying False Patriotism.

Patriotic tweets from Republicans in Congress about the Fourth of July rang hollow for many people on the social media platform on Sunday.

Conservatives were chastised for celebrating Independence Day and America's freedoms while conveniently ignoring their support for Donald Trump's 2020 election lies, which fueled the deadly U.S. Capitol riot, and their subsequent votes against a bipartisan investigation into the violence.

See how officials such as Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Josh Hawley (Mo. ), House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), and the Republican National Committee attempted to commemorate July 4th here:

Don't listen to the haters - this is the greatest nation in the history of the world, and our future is going to be incredible — Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) July 4, 2021

I'm proud to be an American and proud to be free. That's why I'll fight every day to protect our God-given liberties.#HappyIndependenceDay pic.twitter.com/r29dpiQVpJ — Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) July 4, 2021

Happy birthday, America! After the year we've all had, this Independence Day should hold special meaning. Despite the ill-fated efforts of the elites—we are FREE. We must treasure—and defend—our freedom every day. pic.twitter.com/xl4uaIjgKN — Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) July 4, 2021

Today we celebrate our great nation and our freedom; thank you to those who have fought and continue to fight to ensure that the United States remains the land of the free and the home of the brave; and I wish you and your family a safe and happy Independence Day! pic.twitter.com/IW8EfQv79w — Congressman Clyde Press Office (@Rep_Clyde) July 4, 2021

During the Revolutionary War, French officer Marquis de Lafayette declared, "Humanity has won its battle, liberty now has a country." As we celebrate our freedom today, remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation. Let us give thanks this July 4th for the opportunity to live in the freest and greatest country in world history. Happy Independence Day! pic.twitter.com/Me7SwtBHTr — Senator Tommy Tuberville (@SenTuberville) July 4, 2021

And here are just a few of the venomous responses they received:

On the #SixthofJanuary, I supported treason, and I wish you a happy #FourthofJuly. https://t.co/bsSI1Oph5X — Dan Franko (@danfranko) July 4, 2021

@SenTedCruz, you are full of shit. You will not defend Americans' rights to life, like my daughter, and to be free from gun violence. Americans know you will not defend our Democracy from an attack, leaving many to wonder, were those your friends? Texans know you will just leave. https://t.co/1okrmjfT0A — Fred Guttenberg (@fred_guttenberg) July 4, 2021

So why are you attempting to restore a king/autocrat... Freedom for whom? — Dan (@danp2078r) July 4, 2021
