A Chinese police academy
announced an auction to find new homes for 54 dogs
who failed the program because they were too gentle for a career in law enforcement
The dogs, primarily German shepherds, Dutch shepherd hybrids, and Belgian malinois, will be auctioned off on July 7 by the Criminal Investigation
in northeastern Liaoning province.
The dogs were rejected from the police dog training program for a variety
of reasons, according to the school, including timid personalities, physical
weakness or frailty, failure to follow instructions, and refusal to bite when prompted.
The school said buyers must sign an agreement to follow government regulations for the proper care of the canines, which the new owners will be prohibited from reselling or otherwise rehoming, with bids increasing by $7.70 until the auction ends.
