With Reactions To Trump Organization Charges, Eric Trump And Don Jr. Raise Eyebrows

On Thursday, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. appeared on television to respond to the charges brought against The Trump Organization and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg.

And the remarks of ex-President Donald Trump's sons, both of whom are executives in the Trump family business, drew a lot of attention.

The Trump heirs described the charges against the company and its CFO as politically motivated and aimed at preventing their father from running for president again in 2024.

According to the indictment, the scheme sought to “compensate Weisselberg and other Trump Organization executives in an ‘off the books’” manner, in which they “received substantial portions of their income through indirect and disguised means” in order to “substantially understate their compensation” and pay less tax.

However, Donald Trump Jr. declared on Fox News that the Manhattan district attorney's charges were "political persecution of a political foe."

He argued that it was "no different" than Russian President Vladimir Putin's treatment of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, comparing it to "banana republic stuff."

In an interview with Newsmax, Eric Trump stated that he is unconcerned about being charged because his family has "always lived amazingly clean lives."

He then attempted to divert attention away from the charges by criticizing President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.

Later, on Fox News, Eric Trump slammed the district attorney's office for focusing "on $3.5 million to take down a political opponent" when, he claimed, crime is "rampant" and people are fleeing "dirty" and "disgusting" New York City in "record numbers."

“I mean, this is what they do, this is New York state for you,” he said, claiming that the situation was worse than a banana republic.

Eric Trump appeared to dismiss the alleged scheme as "employment perks" that should not be prosecuted.

Twitter users were taken aback by the ex-president's sons' comments on the ongoing investigation, with some even suggesting they were inadvertently putting their foot in it with their defenses:

Please inform Eric that neither "the amount we stole is hardly worth talking about" nor "there are people doing even worse crimes" are actual or effective legal defenses. — Mrs. Betty Bowers (@BettyBowers) July 2, 2021

Clearly, no one at Trump Organization has told the nepotism hires that commenting on the criminal matter is inappropriate. Run your mouth, Eric. Run your mouth. pic.twitter.com/iulouUmiAn — Bradley P. Moss (@BradMossEsq) July 2, 2021

If you work on the Trump Organization's legal team, are you encouraging this? Are you quietly sending emails and texts urging them not to say much for a while? "I'm not Hunter Biden" will not be admissible at trial. — Ray Suarez (@RaySuarezNews) July 2, 2021

Dear @EricTrump,The actions you are admitting to are illegal, and thus criminal.Xx Van https://t.co/UM6J4Ln3SX — Van Badham (@vanbadham) July 2, 2021
