John Bolton Was Almost Going To Title His Trump Memoir NSFW, But Was Talked Out Of It

If ex-President Donald Trump's former national security adviser had his way, online searches for John Bolton's White House memoir might have yielded some wildly different results.

Bolton's 2020 account of his 17 months in the Trump administration was eventually titled "The Room Where It Happened," but the book was originally titled "A Hard Pounding," according to Simon & Schuster CEO Jon Karp in an online video released Tuesday.

“The original title for that book was ‘A Hard Pounding,’ which was actually a quote from the Duke of Wellington after the Battle of Waterloo,” said Karp, whose publishing company released the autobiographical account.

The book itself alleged wrongdoing by Trump, but it drew criticism for Bolton, who did not speak out against the then-president during his tenure.

“But we told Mr. Bolton that some people might think ‘a hard pounding’ had a sexual connotation,” Karp continued, “and he told us that our minds were in the gutter, and we compromised on ‘The Room Where It Happened.’ I think it all worked out a lot better.”
