During Spain's second-round European Championships game against Croatia on Monday, the shot-stopper scored an embarrassing own goal due to a brief lapse in concentration.
Croatia took a 1-0 lead after midfielder Pedri passed the ball back to Simón, but it skipped off his boot and into the net.
“It’s an oops moment and then some,” ESPN commentator Derek Rae said.
Yes, there was an oversight.
Simón, 24, appeared completely dejected after the blunder, which was the tournament's ninth own goal.
But he made amends later in the game, making a string of crucial saves as Spain rallied to win 5-3 in extra time and advance to face Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Friday.
