" to honor Willie Nelson
Host Jimmy Fallon was speaking with country legend Willie Nelson via video link about his upcoming book
, "Willie Nelson's Letters to America
," when he asked him why he decided to compile a collection of memories, jokes
, missives, and lyrics.
“Oh, I don’t know. Someone mentioned money
,” the 88-year-old multi-award-winning musician
deadpanned in response.
Fallon stood up from his desk, waved to his studio audience, and exited through the stage curtain, acknowledging the perfectly delivered response.
Fallon reappeared shortly after, still giggling at the answer.
“Really, I thought it was a good idea,” Nelson explained, adding, “And Turk Pipkin and I, the writer
who helped me with the book, a great friend of mine, we’ve done a lot of things together in the past, so I had a lot of fun doing it.”
