According to a new book
, former President Donald Trump
desired a heavy-handed, violent, and aggressive response to civil rights
protesters who took to the streets across the country in the aftermath of the police
killing of George Floyd
According to an excerpt from Wall Street
Journal reporter Michael Bender's book "'Frankly, We Did Win This Election
': The Inside Story Of How Trump Lost," which was published by CNN
on Thursday, Trump reportedly told advisers that he wanted the military
to "beat the fuck" out of the mostly peaceful demonstrators.
“Just shoot them,” Trump allegedly demanded on multiple occasions.
He also stated that he wished to "crack their skulls."

When his request was denied, the then-president softened his stance slightly, saying, “Well, shoot them in the leg — or maybe the foot, but be tough on them,” according to the book.
Bender also reported that around the time of the protests, Gen. Mark Milley, the nation's highest-ranking military officer, told Trump's then-senior policy adviser Stephen Miller to "shut the fuck up" after he claimed cities were like war zones.
