Naomi Osaka Has Withdrawn From The Wimbledon Championships.

Naomi Osaka, the world's number one tennis player, will not compete in this year's Wimbledon.

Osaka's agent said in a statement Thursday that the 23-year-old four-time Grand Slam champion "is taking some personal time with friends and family," but that she will still compete in the Summer Olympics.

Osaka, ranked second in the world in women's tennis, withdrew from the tournament, which begins on June 28, just weeks after withdrawing from the French Open due to mental health issues.

Following her decision not to participate in post-match press conferences, which resulted in a fine, Osaka withdrew from the Open completely, citing anxiety and depression.

Wimbledon previously stated that it had contacted Osaka regarding media operations at the tournament.

Rafael Nadal, a Spanish tennis pro, also announced Thursday that he would not be competing in Wimbledon or the Olympics, citing the need to "listen to my body."

In her statement about withdrawing from the French Open last month, Osaka stated that taking time away from the court was “the best thing for the tournament, the other players, and my well-being,” adding that “when the time is right, I really want to work with the Tour to discuss ways we can make things better for the players, press, and fans.”
