Prosecutors In New York Are Said To Be Looking Into Trump's Former Bodyguard.

According to reports, New York prosecutors are looking into Donald Trump's former bodyguard Matthew Calamari as part of an investigation into the Trump Organization's employee perks that may have violated tax laws.

Calamari is now the chief operating officer for the Trump Organization after working as Trump's bodyguard for many years. Trump hired Calamari after seeing him take down a couple of hecklers at a tennis tournament while working security in 1981.

According to Harry Hurt's 1993 biography "Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump," Calamari is so devoted to Trump that he once stated that he would kill for him.

Calamari told Bloomberg in an interview, "I love the guy."

According to The Wall Street Journal, investigators are looking into Calamari's Trump Organization compensation package as part of an investigation to see if employees were paid with perks like homes and cars in order for the company and employees to avoid paying taxes. Prosecutors are also looking into pay arrangements for the Trump Organization's Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg.

Despite the fact that neither Calamari nor Weisselberg has been charged with any wrongdoing, prosecutors in Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.'s office have been pressuring Weisselberg to cooperate in the Trump Organization investigation.

According to the Journal, there is no evidence that prosecutors have been successful so far with Weisselberg.

According to the Journal, prosecutors last month encouraged Calamari and his son, Matthew Calamari Jr., who also works for the Trump Organization as the corporate director of security, to hire their own attorneys.

Vance's office has been collaborating with the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), who has launched a broader criminal investigation, to investigate possible bank, insurance, and tax fraud by the Trump Organization and its officers.

When Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen testified before Congress in 2019, he stated that both Weisselberg and Calamari were aware of instances where Trump overstated the value of assets to insurance companies.

Trump, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, has claimed that the investigations are politically motivated.
