is in the midst of another major energy
crisis, with residents being urged to conserve power or face blackouts, so “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert
found it odd
that the state had just announced a $250 million investment in its own border wall
“What a wise use of taxpayer money
,” he observed, noting that “you wouldn't want to waste it on something stupid like shoring up their cotton candy power grid.”
However, Colbert also stated that Texas requires a wall for a reason.
“I understand why Texas is desperate,” he remarked, “they need to find a way to keep their senators from fleeing to Cancun.”
He's referring, of course, to Sen. Ted Cruz
(R-Texas), who flew to sunny Cancun for a vacation after a winter storm knocked out his state's power supply and left millions without heat.
At one point, Colbert enlisted the help of the entire audience by delivering a revised verse to "Deep In The Heart Of Texas."
