Israel Launches Airstrikes On Gaza, Violating A Cease-fire Agreement With Hamas.

The Israeli military confirmed Wednesday's attack on Gaza, breaking a cease-fire that had ended an 11-day period of violence last month that killed over 250 people, the majority of whom were Palestinians.

The Israeli Defense Forces said in a statement to Reuters and Al Jazeera that it had attacked Hamas' armed compounds in Gaza in response to reports of incendiary balloons being launched from the territory.

The attack comes just weeks after Israeli airstrikes destroyed Gaza in May, killing dozens of children, destroying homes and institutions, and uprooting families. It also comes after Israel's new ultranationalist government allowed a far-right march in occupied East Jerusalem, where settlers are currently attempting to force Palestinians out of their homes.
