Naya Rivera's Father Reveals The Heartbreaking Plan They Had Prior To Her Death

Naya Rivera's father has spoken out about his plans for his daughter before she tragically died last year in a new interview.

George Rivera, the “Glee” star’s father, spoke with People about one of the last conversations he had with his 33-year-old daughter, a month before the one-year anniversary of her death.

He told the publication that the two had planned to meet in Nashville just two weeks before Naya Rivera's death to relaunch her singing career.

“She was really looking forward to starting to record music again,” George Rivera said in the interview, which was published Wednesday, adding that “our relationship was really bonded around music.”

“She was a pretty good writer and wrote a lot of poetry, but she didn’t play any instruments,” he went on, “so we’d been looking for collaborators and we found this young group who she liked and who were good songwriters.”

George Rivera continued, "I never cared if she was an actress."

“I’m a music guy, a former musician and frustrated disc jockey, and I’ve always wanted her to sing, record, and, more importantly, write music. I was so excited about that upcoming trip — and so was she,” he explained.

Naya Rivera, best known for her role as cheerleader Santana on "Glee," went missing in July 2020 after renting a boat with her 4-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, on Lake Piru in California's Los Padres National Forest. Her body was recovered several days later.

Cory Monteith died in 2013 at the age of 31 from a drug overdose, and Mark Salling, who was awaiting a sentence for charges of possessing child pornography, committed suicide in 2018.
