First lady Jill Biden
wore a “LOVE” blazer on Thursday, which has been interpreted as a dig at former first lady Melania Trump
’s “I really don’t care” jacket from last year.
The first lady was spotted in Cornwall, England
, with President Joe Biden
Prime Minister Boris Johnson
, and his wife Carrie Johnson, ahead of the G7 Summit
, wearing a jacket with the word "LOVE" on the back.
fashionistas immediately compared the jacket to former first lady Melania Trump's infamous green
jacket that read, "I really don't care, do u?" The ex-first lady later admitted the message was aimed at "the people
and for the left-wing media who are criticizing me."
Jill Biden told Bloomberg's Jennifer Jacobs that the jacket she was wearing was a call to unity.
“I think we’re bringing love from America,” the first lady said, adding, “I think this is a global conference, and we’re trying to bring unity across the globe, and I think it’s important right now that you have a sense of unity.”
Jacobs wrote that Biden appeared to be mocking Melania for wearing an “I don’t care” jacket to the Mexican border
to visit children
separated from their families in 2018.
The Trumps were embroiled in a tumultuous relationship with the press at the time, and public outrage was mounting over the administration's border policies.
Jill Biden's outfit was also mocked on the internet, with one user dubbed the "Queen of Shade."

I think that's hilarious (the Melania spoof), but a better jacket message would have been "all you need is"... being in the UK and all. :) — Laura Kerr (@LockKerrUp) June 10, 2021
