BUCKLEY, Ill. (AP) — The body
of a man from southern Illinois
was discovered inside a gas
tanker after two truck drivers noticed the fuel wasn't flowing smoothly during unloading, according to police
According to Coroner Bill Cheatum
, the drivers were attempting to unload the tanker at a gas transfer hub in Iroquois County on Friday when they discovered the body after opening it to determine why the fuel was not flowing steadily.
The drivers said they had been having trouble unloading gas from the tanker for a few days and had no idea how the body got inside, according to Cheatum of WCIA-TV
, 29, of Nashville
, Illinois, was identified by Illinois State Police, according to WICS-TV.
The Champaign County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on Saturday, and toxicology results are pending. The Iroquois County Sheriff's Office is investigating Mayer's death
The body was discovered while the tanker truck was parked near the small village of Buckley, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Champaign.
