A conservative writer
has confirmed a report that former President Donald Trump
is telling associates that he expects to be re-elected this summer.
“The magnitude of Trump’s delusion
is quite startling,” wrote National Review senior writer Charles C.W. Cooke on the magazine’s website.
Cooke confirmed a report earlier this week by New York
Maggie Haberman, who claimed on Twitter
that Trump has been spreading the popular new QAnon
Cooke went on to say that Trump not only believes he will be re-elected president, but also that he will be given a Republican
majority in the Senate
, believing that two Democrats
will be removed from Congress
and replaced by the GOP
candidates they defeated.
, he warned, should not dismiss or minimize the report.
“This is not just an eccentric interpretation of the facts or an interesting foible, nor is it an irrelevant example of anguished post-presidency chatter,” he wrote, “but a rejection of reality, a rejection of law, and, ultimately, a rejection of the entire system of American government.”
Trump, he wrote, is "so disconnected from reality that it's difficult to know where to start in attempting to explain him."

Lara Trump, the former president's wife and the mother of one of the former president's three sons, reacted mildly to the report this week on Fox News
“As far as I know, there are no plans for Donald Trump to be in the White House
in August,” she said on Fox News, but she added, “Perhaps there is something I don’t know.”
Another close Trump ally, on the other hand, claims it's not only true... but that he came up with the idea himself.
“If Trump says August, it’s probably because he heard me say it publicly,” MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell
explained to The Daily Beast.
