An Ex-Tarzan Actor Was One Of Seven People Killed In A Plane Crash In Tennessee.

MYRNA, Tenn. (AP) — Investigators continued to look for the bodies of seven people believed to have died in a small plane crash into a Tennessee lake the day before, including the founder of a local church.

Capt. John Ingle of the Rutherford County Fire Rescue said in a statement Sunday that recovery efforts at Percy Priest Lake near Smyrna were still underway, with an emphasis on examining a half-mile-wide debris field in the lake.

The victims were identified as Brandon Hannah, Gwen S. Lara, William J. Lara, David L. Martin, Jennifer J. Martin, Jessica Walters, and Jonathan Walters, all of Brentwood, Tennessee, in a news release issued late Saturday. Their names were released after family members were notified.

Gwen Shamblin Lara founded the Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood in 1999 and wrote a faith-based weight loss book, while her husband of nearly three years, Joe Lara, portrayed Tarzan in the 1990s television series "Tarzan: The Epic Adventures."

The Cessna C501 plane was on its way from nearby Smyrna Rutherford County Airport to Palm Beach International Airport when it crashed Saturday morning, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Authorities have not released the plane's registration information.

Percy Priest Lake is a reservoir created by the J. Percy Priest Dam and is a popular spot for boating and fishing in Smyrna, which is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of Nashville.

“With dive teams on the water, we strongly advise civilian boaters to avoid approaching public safety boats,” Ingle said.

There was a lead investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board on the scene.
