With the bizarre conspiracy theories emerging from the Arizona
audit of the 2020 presidential election
results, Seth Meyers
took a trip through the circus Thursday night.
A contractor is conducting the audit in Maricopa County
on behalf of state Senate Republicans
, who insist on investigating allegations of election fraud in November.
However, there is no evidence that the election in November was not secure.
Auditors investigated baseless claims inspired by right-wing conspiracy theories, such as using UV lights to look for watermarks from former President Donald Trump
and inspecting ballots for bamboo fibers to see if they were sent from Asia.
“What other brilliant ideas do they have, only the real ballots will float so let’s throw them in the river and if they sink, it’s fraud?” Meyers asked on “Late Night
.” “I mean, what’s next, they feed the real ballots to a bunch of chickens and then incinerate the chickens? Oh, oh, that’s next? Wow, I’m getting good at this.”
There is even a conspiracy theory
that ballots were left on a chicken farm and then burned down.
“So, just to recap in case you're watching this and your brain
is normal and you're having trouble following: they believe there's bamboo in the paper because it was smuggled in from Asia. they believe Trump watermarked the real ballots. they believe Hugo Chavez, who died in 2013, rigged the election. and they believe the ballots were eaten by chickens and then incinerated.”
